Amisty's Shoes

(Kevin Browne)
October, 2004
Amisty is a small girl from Trinidad and Tobago. I asked her one day before class why she always wore tennis shoes with ca. 2 inch platforms. She said: "Because I'm so small." I started singing one day when I had my guitar with me at school: "I really like those shoes" and a song was born.
Amisty, she’s very small
That means she’s not that tall
I don’t know how that feels to always need shoes with heels
But she wears tennis shoes, refuses to sing the blues
Now she has platforms with attitude
I really like those shoes
If I were you I’d wear them too
They’re pink and black and real cool
I really like those shoes
Such a great big world for such a tiny girl
But she’s as nice as can be
I never see her angry
- chorus –
I was flabbergasted the first day she came through the door
By this girl so placid
Yeah, those kicks they really had me floored
But she wears tennis shoes, refuses to sing the blues
Now she has platforms with attitude
Yeah, that gives her a much better view
They really got me now, yeah, they really got me now
I really like those shoes
If I were you I’d wear them too
They’re pink and black and real cool
I really like those shoes
