Kevin Browne: Songs

Scenery

(Kevin Browne)
August, 2005
I wrote this song at the very end of my stay in Norway in 2005. I was a bit homesick and missing my wife and family. The song has a lot to do with my train rides from Årnes to Oslo to go to school and the homesickness. Rebecca, one of the daughters of the family I stayed with, liked to listen to me play and I would sometimes hear someone "plop" down behind me on a chair or sofa, so she has a verse in the song. And yes, the stairs in their house do creak a lot. I enjoyed reading the Norwegian newspapers. Vilde taught me the little children's song in Norwegian that I included in the song.
Well I learned the routine, was an easy lesson
I enjoyed the scenery and the early morning rain
And to see you smile again
It’s an easy journey with the train to Oslo
In these walls of silence and a book to keep me sane
And to see you smile again
Through the clouds there’s a little light coming through
Through the clouds there’s a little light shining through

See the morning papers on the dining table
Hear the stairs start creaking, but it seems to rest my brain
And to see you smile again
Well you sat and listened while I played my music
We talked of family and that helped to ease the pain
And to see you smile again
Through the clouds there’s a little light coming through
Through the clouds there’s a little light shining through

Nå er jeg glad at je kjenner deg (Now I’m glad that I know you)
Bare håper at du husker meg (I only hope you remember me)
Ba ba lille lam har du noe ull? (Bah, bah little lamb, do you have any wool?)
Ja ja kjære barn, jeg har kroppen full (Yes, dear child, a whole body full)
